Why, exactly? Is there some sort of special internet for rich people? Asking strangers on the internet about where to live makes about as much sense when you're paying $9000 as when you're paying $900.

I don't see the big deal, either. There's a big difference between living in Beacon Hill vs the Seaport, for example, and there's a luxury housing market in both.

The difference is probably only that someone with 9k to spend on rent can afford to make a few trips up here to check places out, but the input of others is surely still valuable, especially when that same person probably doesn't have a lot of free time to go traipsing around neighborhoods.

I didn't say it was a big deal, just seems a bit weird.

Why is it weird? Someone moving to Boston who's not familiar with the area has come here to ask for insights and advice. It happens on this site quite a bit. What does it matter what their budget is?

People with that level of income who live close enough to the area probably have more than several connections in the city to ask. I know I would ask my own personal connections about a place over City Data. Just me though.

Relationships are an aspect that money doesn't change much. Friendships still matter, and are just as hard to make. The cohort changes, but the size and ease of connecting do not.

I didn't say anything about "friends."
