I am moving to needham area in june. My wife would want to study in Boston downtown in Harvard Univ. We are looking to move in a nice, clean and safe area preferably having apartments with good space, covered parking and good square area. It will be great to have a safe community, movie theateres, easy commute to downtown via trains. I would be frequently going to Milton and Brockton for couple of days in a month so anything close to highways will be a plus.
We looked at couple of places but sounded very expensive like waltham and newton. We dint like natick apartments as they were small and kinda dull place. Framingham apartments were not very nicely built or comfortable looking either. A more vibrant place with some shopping malls with some busy atmosphere would be exciting. (may be a little better price) Can you suggest us some apartments that you had experience with or heard of are good. Any suggestions about Norwood, Canton, westwood, West roxbury, brookline Your thoughts and time are highly appreciated. Thanks Vivek |

Hi Vivek,
It sounds like you'll be working as a hospitalist? That's the impression I get from your job description, which sounds a lot like mine (email me directly if you want further details). Anyways, Brookline is a great place to live with a lot of shops/restaurants/libraries and easy public transportation to Harvard (20 minutes by bus). The downside to Brookline is that to drive to Brockton takes 45-55 minutes, since Brookline is not that close to the highway, I-95. I'm not sure how long it takes to get to Milton from Brookline, but it's probably also 35 minutes or so. The trains that go from Brookline to downtown Boston take about 20 minutes and run every 5-10 minutes. Needham itself has a nice downtown too, and you should consider living there. It's about a 25-30 minute drive to Brockton from Needham. To get from Needham to downtown Boston, you need to take the Commuter Rail, which takes 30-40 minutes to South Station in Boston depending upon where in Needham you are. Canton has a pretty busy downtown and there appear to be plenty of businesses/restaurants in easy walking distance. 15-20 minutes to Brockton from there. To get to downtown Boston it's 25 minutes on the commuter rail trail that goes to South Station; and about 15 minutes on the MBTA red line train to get from South Station to Harvard U. The other towns you mentioned, I don't know too well. I don't think there is a lot going on in Norwood. West Roxbury is a working-class town I think. Westwood is very wealthy; there are probably not that many rental apts available there. Westwood is a quiet town I think. Hope this helps! Quote:

What's a "hospitalist"?

Hi,
That's a type of internal medicine physician who only sees inpatients. Needham, Milton, and Brockton are 3 hospitals that rely heavily on hospitalist physicians. |
