Yes it is gay friendly. Boston does not have a recognized gay neighborhood like most other cities of its size. However some of this is because gays live basically everywhere in metro Boston without much discrimination (in 2017). The south end was sort of a gay area, but it's become so expensive that you have to be wealthy to live there. Out in the burbs (outside of 128) the gay population is definitively less prominent. You pretty much need to be in Boston/Cambridge/Somerville if you want to intermingle with other homosexuals. Salem is the only place outside of the Urban core that has a significant gay population (although it doesn't have a gay bar or club).

As far as finding dates, Tinder and Grindr are actively used in the Boston area (Grindr is awful though if you want anything meaningful).

As far as bars and clubs you've got Club Cafe, Machine, and Paradise in Cambridge. There may be a few other small ones but those are the three largest.

Mass was the first state to legalize SSM, 13 years ago.

Fenway Health is an excellent and comprehensive glbt- friendly health center near Fenway Park, reportedly the biggest glbt-oriented health facility under one roof in the country, at least when it opened in the new location a few years who.

They offer optical, mental health and dental in addition to general health services.

Speaking from the straight perspective, Boston is a place where the vast majority of people will regard being gay as only a bit more of interest than having different colored hair.

Agreed. In terms of being Gay Friendly, Probably one of the friendliest in the country. People here just don't really care - you live your life the way you want to. The flip side of that is that Boston never really developed a gay social sphere. There are maybe 1 or 2 gay bars, and maybe a handful of LGBTQ organizations, but that will be about it. Gay and straight pretty much hang out at the same places.

As for finding friends and such, it is not hard, but again takes a little more work. I hate to throw out stereotypes, but a big problem I had was that there are so many people in Boston who you just can't figure out, even after you get to know them. So, if you are looking for a place where you have a whole gaggle of gay friends and this amazing night life, Boston probably isn't for you. If you just want a place where you can be who you are, and have a diverse group of friends, then Boston I think would fit nicely.

Im surprised Paradise is still there. I assume it's the same one your referring to. I used to go there in the 80s. I thought it had been around awhile even back then..

Boston is among the most gay friendly cities in the nation. The predominant gay neighborhood used to be the South End, however, like most many areas it is very expensive. Truthfully, any safe neighborhood is gay friendly.
