Lori, Why are you sticking to the South Shore area? I have been researching for months mainly from GreatSchools, cross referencing with Urban Dictionary to see what kids have to say, the MBTA lines and these forums along with real estate websites. Not interested in snobby either but where there are great schools, there is money, etc....So far, we liked Canton,Lexington,Arlington,Sudbury,Concord,Ashland ,Westborough, Westford, and Newton. The only towns that don't have rail service is Arlington and Lexington. We lived in Lexington two years ago and moved back to California. Now we are coming back to Ma. for good. Email privately and we'll talk!

Please understand if your child is any good with music, you most likely want a good teacher (which is NOT provided by the school.) The HS orchestra is just something for the average kid to do. Also, only rich communities can afford to have music programs. Due to budget cuts, most music programs are dramatically reduced or eliminated.

There are many good musicians in Boston also teaches. There are also Boston youth symphony. There are also competition that your kid can go into.

As far as I know King Philip High School has the best known music program in the state. The school has a marching band, a symphony band, a concert band, several Jazz combos, a folk band and a percussion ensemble. The marching band has won 20 consecutive gold metal titles in the MICCA evaluations, and has achieved the highest ranking in the USSBA Regional Championships for 6 years in a row. The King Philip Marching Band has been named the Bands of America Regional Champion for 2006. They compete all over the country.
