Yea man, I NEVER experience overt racism as a large young black man in the city. Thankfully, there’s always an older white man to remind me that I lie about it.

Fortunately, none of my friends or family ever experiences racism either, that’s due to the good white folk fact checking them.m along the way.

Is from the business owners security cam. This was posted after the teen said the pizza was thrown at her, and the community and internet backlash was already in full swing.
Video clearly shows the teen throwing the pizza.
Then she retracted saying yes only because he was saying racist things to me.
End of the day. Another employee fired. Another over blown claim (it seems like). and another social media rage.
Aren't we better than this?
The original video is the girls side of the story-this came out after. There’s no sound, this is a small clip, this proves nothing to me about whether the employee was racist or not. Seeing as the employee was fired for racial comments (I saw a video where the employee (and another is openly taunting and mocking the teen) is be willlingbto bet there was a lot of racial animosity.

https://youtu.be/u93B691RjiY

Uphams Pizza has long had a negative rep amongst people of color, so it came as a surprise to no one.

Side note:I personally know the teen, Melly Barros-she was dating a student I taught in Dorchester. I can’t inagine she would spit at and throw pizza at an employee for no reason. It doesn’t make sense. There’s a reason sensitivity training was mandated for Uphams House...

I'm glad the two sides are able to be reasonable about the incident.

The fact that her initial posting was that the employee hit her with the pizza and showed a pic of pizza on her face is of no concern to anyone I guess.

Can you give us some detailed examples of it?

I've experienced racial stereotyping also. And the most annoying one was when I was in my mid-twenties, I was walking in Central Square, minding my own business, when a young black man walking towards me reached out an brushed my upper arm with the back of his hand and said "Chinese girls have such silky soft skin". I chose to ignore him and kept walking on... but I really wanted to knee him in the groin for touching me like that and saying that crap. Sure, it was a positive stereotype and a really stupid pickup line, but he had no right to touch me like that either. And I wouldn't want ANY man of ANY race trying that pickup method on me EVER.

Otherwise, in the Boston area I've worked several jobs that were extremely diverse (whites were actually in the minority), and my only inner annoyances with the blacks and Hispanics of both sexes was their machismo culture and the Hispanics for talking in Spanish when they could speak English fine. The problem I have with machismo cultures is that I am from a culture that is pretty much the opposite of that. We value geeks, having children within wedlock, and self-discipline. Macho cultures are about the men being players and the women being into dressing sexy, and there is a lot of baby making as a result, and most of it out of wedlock. I have nothing in common with those values.

IRL the people who know me, know that I am not a racist, but I do care about their lifestyle and morals. I can accept and tolerate anyone, but I am very picky about who I chose to be actual friends with. Also, because I am a woman, over the years, I care more about avoiding men with a player attitude towards the opposite sex. They don't understand how to have platonic female friends, and as a gearhead tomboy type, I do have many male platonic friends. And once a man is in the friend zone, I need for them to stay there.

Anyway, sorry to digress into relationship forum territory, but I wanted to explain the mindset of a New England woman who grew up in the suburbs and is Chinese. Many times in Boston, IMO I don't think that we have a problem with race, but it's a problem with CULTURE clashes. Even the whole school bussing crap way back when. Even now, I know that if I had school age children, the only problem that I would have with a diverse classroom, is that I don't want my children picking up ebonic lingo in their speech patterns and I don't want them dating as early as they do in macho cultures.

IMO the Uphams Pizza incident was more about urban macho street culture versus the non-black pizza staff. Somehow, the black female customer felt disrespected in the transaction... and it escalated from there. Maybe it was even a setup, since the black girl's companion was so quick to start videoing the interaction. Also, it seems like that the pizza house staff and the black customers were all in the same young age group. So maturity was lacking on both sides of the counter.

I’m not giving you any examples. You don’t need my examples, and I ain’t on trial.

Trial? I was looking forward to the constructive dialogue and wisdom so I could become a better white person.

Nope. Not at all. The picture could easily have been staged.
