Hello all, my daughter and I got a $90! parking ticket in Boston a week before I cancelled the registration of the car, which was registered to me and my ex-husband. I cancelled the registration because I traded that old car in for a new car, which is in just my name with a new registration/plate number under a new address.

Anyone know what might happen if I don't pay the ticket for the cancelled registration? I'll likely just pay it, but am toying with the idea of ignoring it because it's so damn much $ (for parking in a commercial zone on Newbury St, which we didn't notice - seems unfair that a commercial zone ticket is so much higher than a regular parking ticket!)

thanks

You are in the their record book if the car was in your name and you are using the old plate for your new car. You can try to skip but if you are ever pulled over be ready for the additional fines and penalties. Many departments use an automatic license plate recognition (ALPR) system. With an ALPR camera, mounted on an enforcement vehicle, it scans license plates & officers are alerted in real-time to parking violations or scofflaws. Your car gets booted and that $90 ticket turns into a $300 trip to the impound lot .

Sorry I missed the new plate part. As most posters say its a bad idea to skip. The DMV's have a funny way of catching up to you when you least expect it. A ticket was written against a plate, that plate was registered to someone with an address and a drivers license. Lot of systems are now connected including states sharing data. $90 hurts, been there myself, but I paid the darn thing.
