Hi,
We are still house hunting and just saw a 1st level condo on Chestnut Ave, JP. The unit looks good but it has no parking to offer. So we have to rely on permit parking when (if) we buy a car. I will be using only the PT to commute to the longwood medical area for work.

The condo is priced at $460/sq. Ft. I am would like to know if the area is safe and worth the price. We are a couple and mostly will be using PT or walk to go to places. I'd appreciate your insight.

Thanks!

Chestnut Ave is a long street. What part? I'd advise against the part near Centre St. / Jackson Square.

It depends which part of Centre Street. The 700 block is much safer than the 300 block near the T and Stop & Shoo. for example. I don't like the Jackson Square area, either.

There were two or more people found killed or stabbed in their cars this summer nearby. Was it Mozart Street off Centre? If not, it was near there near a school or playground. It's likely reported online.

Because of the public housing projects on Centre St. that are directly across from Chestnut Ave.

And you'd have to walk past those projects to get to/from the Jackson Square T station.

@redplum33 and bostonguy1960, Thank you!

I just called the JP police to find more about safety but they just directed me to bpdnews.com.

Maybe ask a librarian or two at the Jamaica Plain branches of the Boston Public Library. There are two in Jamaica Plain. They may have heard of some incidents.

Plus, the Jamaica Plain Gazette is a newspaper I see at the 7-11 near Whole Foods Market. Twenty-Fve cents.
Not sure if it's weekly or biweekly. You can even ask if they have back issues for you to peruse at the libraries for info on crime issues....maybe they even have a police blog like many of those local papers have.

Maybe the paper is online as well?

I'm sure the location is already baked into the price of the condo. The project appears well maintained on Google at least.

25 Chestnut appears farther from the end of Chestnut than its number would seem. You can take a different walking route to the T stop, on Rhys and Lamartine.
