Just be transparent and own your decision.
Yeah. i think Doyle's suffered the same fate. The owners stated property prices????? Which makes no sense because the family owned the property. If anything the price of the property is probably what persuaded him to get out and cash in. Not blaming him. Just be up front. I'm cashing in after busting my ass for 100 years and drinking umbrella drinks on a beach!

Yeah, no one would blame someone for that. I worked hard, made something worth something, and I want to do something different or just retire. Bless them.

Ha yeah, would have been my dream, but the field I tried to build a business in basically was wiped through tech changes. So be it.

I thought Doyle's was pretty straightforward about it - I think his entire statement was about opportunity cost. They mentioned how liquor license prices were high (they sold theirs to Davio's in the Seaport for ~$500k), and property values were "higher than they were ever going to be" so he couldn't afford to stay. I don't read that as he's priced out, I read that as he thinks it would be fiscally irresponsible to not cash in now and end up getting less return down the road. That checks out to me.

But I'm right there with you, nobody should feel like they have to sugarcoat their reason for leaving a certain business.

Nah, I visited a slaughterhouse once, and a smallish once in VT at that and saw the bolt gun in action... and I was good for life.

Yikes. No wonder the Boston restaurant scene continues to feel more and more like a VC funded wasteland.

May Worcester's no quota system be long lived.
