Anyone else excited about moving back South? (Boston, Milton: real estate, transplants)

New births count...don't they? So, the "others", as you call them, who have moved into the Atlanta area are more desirable than the "others" who have moved into the Boston Area? Illegals are not counted in census, and I would be willing to bet a lot of money that Georgia has absorbed a substantial number more of illegals than MA has.

Agreed. I have read many articles about how Boston is becoming the next Detroit.

That will change within the next few years as the employees of all these corporations that you say are flocking to Atlanta get sick of the traffic, the fuel prices and the loss of natural lands to the runaway suburban sprawl that is ocurring in NW Georgia. I have had the pleasure of flying into Atlanta several times in the past year or two to change planes. I always sit at the window and look out. When I looked out over Atlanta from 30 miles south of the city. Directly below the plane were newly developed suburbs, unpaved cul-de-sacs, and "mcmansions" as far as the eye could see. In ten years Atlanta will be the largest suburb in the world with the world class traffic jams that already exist getting infinitely worse.
Boston is already well sited and established as a generally tight urban center with a good public tansit system in place which will only get better. The small towns surrounding the city retaining the New England charm. A European-style city.

As I said before, I am a conservative. So your comment about "hallmark of the left" is way off base.
The vast majority of the people in MA are regular people. Anyone with confidence in who they are would not be offended by these "elite" types of people. We laugh at them and try our best to undo the havoc that they wreak. If one of the reasons that you left MA, that you itemized, is because of the elitists. Then the problem is yours!

There is one thing I never understood about the South. Why isn't there a major city on the water.

Charleston was the 4th largest city in this country in 1800, after Philly, NY, and Boston. Took a beating with no canal, river, or rail connection to the west though, and then further after the end of the slave trade during reconstruction. At least it's been well preserved. One of my top vacation spots.

But Boston as a city blows Atlanta away, the entire Atlanta area is a chain restaurant paradise where instead of having buildings fronting the street, as they do throughout metro Boston, there's just surface parking lots everywhere.

Never mind the Back Bay or Beacon Hill, I don't think Buckhead could compete with Brookline Village.

???? My point was that Marietta is cheap, and nowhere near the price range of Weston/Wellesley, so you're agreeing with me.

It's also cheaper than other Atlanta suburbs like Sandy Springs, Dunwoody, Roswell, and Alpharetta, it's a place most people think of as comfortable and safe, but certainly not "affluent".

Either way, seems like you've got a terrible identity crisis going, and maybe you should seek professional help instead of flaming everyone and sending PMs to everyone who upsets you.

Um...nope...you missed the point completely. I guess 132 pages of houses from $500K to $5 million, with many over a million dollars, is your idea of a "strip mall community". East Cobb is not cheaper than most of the places you cited, and the fact that you bring it up shows me you have no idea of the relative value of real estate here or the different communities.
