Default Driving to Leominster

Hi. I am moving to Boston soon and was just looking for some insight. I am going to be commuting to Leominster. Would living in Cambridge or Newton be an option for me?

Sure, that's doable, but it's not right around the corner. It's a solid hour drive straight up route 2. It could suck in snow season. If you're interested in Bostonia, give it a go, then you could always find a different job in town once you get settled. Or you could move closer to Leominster.

Thanks. Are they both about the same commute time? I don't really know Boston too well. Which of those areas is better for a 28 year old looking to make friends?

Cambridge is better on both accounts. Newton is more familyish. Cambridge is more collegey and partyish.

Leominster will take anywhere from 45 minutes to almost an hour 1/2 depending on traffic and what time you leave. The best way is down Route 2, which is 4 lanes (two on each side) and has a few stoplights, mostly through the Concord area. Cambridge would be better for a 28 year old, but depending on where you are located in Cambridge the drive could take a bit longer.

Why not live in Leominster? Much more affordable.

Jeez Neil, you just got done ripping up Leominster schools, and now you're recommending it?!

Dude, don't live in Leominster, live in Cambridge.

I was comparing the schools where we moved to Leominster, not "ripping" them, but OK...I concede I wasn't thrilled.

I was just suggesting that rather than pay huge money near Boston for housing so you can sit in traffic and burn fossil fuels for 2 hours a day, if you work in Leominster, living close by might be sensible.

Fair enough, in fact I agree with you on that point about commuting, although from what I inferred from the OP's original post, he's a 28 yr old looking for fun which I think he'd find more of in Porter Sq than LM.
