Cool Visiting Boston Next Week

My wife and two oldest children (15, 13) are visiting Boston next week. What sites would you recommend as definitely must see for any out-of-towners?

I would recommend these two as family favorites.

Museum of Science: http://www.mos.org

New England Aquarium: http://www.neaq.org

Hopefully the weather will improve for your visit.

If you've never been, definitely take a duck tour - good overall view of the city.

The Museum of Science, Aquarium, and Duck Tours are a definite must. Also if you just want to explore, a walk through the Boston Common is a good thing to do. If you enjoy history, the Freedom Trail is another good option.

Absolutely NOT
Museum of Science: http://www.mos.org
or
New England Aquarium: http://www.neaq.org

For me, I could never understand why people fly 3000 miles to Boston to shop at the GAP. Why would anyone want to travel 1000s of miles to be inside all day? MOS is no different than many other science museum in other states. You can go to those places if they plan to say for more than 3-4 days when you cannot figure out what else to do.

Go duck tour or trolley tour. You'll see all the tourist sites in just ONE day. Go to neighborhoods like Chinatown or North End (italian) to have a meal. Visit the different colleges (MIT, Harvard, BU, BC). Check out Fenway park. Faneuil Hall. I would even go for a whale watch, harbor cruise before going to the Aquarium.

Definitely do the Freedom Trail and the U.S.S. Constitution. This will take you to sites uniquely Boston. If you are into historic architecture, walk through BackBay, Copley Square, the South End, Public Garden and Boston Common to soak up the atmosphere. If you are into museums, I especially enjoy the Gardner Museum with its magnificent atrium.

Also would recommend the Children's Museum for the kids. They have recently renovated it and is supposed to be great.

By the way, if you are a Bank of America card holder, you can get into some museums for free by just showing your bankcard in the month of May. Good luck.

I am visiting Sturbridge, Ma this week and would like to take a day trip to Boston without driving in to the city. Is there a commuter rail or trans into the city from the Sturbridge area?

Sturbridge is about 75 miles from Boston. So, unfortunately, the answer is no. The closest commuter train stop will be Worcester. However, someone may know of a bus service.
