Default Walmart

Hi,

I would like to take my family who is visiting Boston from overseas to a nearby Walmart to pick up some suitcases, and generally browse around.

I live in the Fenway area of Boston and am planning to rent a car, maybe a Zipcar.

Which Walmart would you recommend? Something with a larger selection would be nice, and obviously the closer it is, the better.

Thanks for your help,
Regards,

Andy

I recommend you skip Wal-Mart and hit the Target in Downtown Crossing.

Or you could try the Target in Watertown--definitely easier to drive to. There is a Walmart in Framingham, but it isn't very nice. If you're used to Walmarts in the South, you will be very disappointed.

I don't think that there is a Walmart in the city of Boston. There's one in Quincy, and there is a Target store at South Bay. I agree with jayrandom, we don't have the kind of super Walmarts you are used to seeing in other parts of the country. I've only seen one, in Raynham, I think.

There is a new one in Lynn on 1A (the Lynnway). You might like building 19 and 1/2 and the MassMart up there too. It's a bargain basement neighborhood.

Better yet, check out the Wrentham Outlets. Designer outlet mall with more than a hundred stores. My fave is "Off 5th", the Saks 5th Ave discount. Others I like are Calvin Klein, Perry Ellis, etc.

There was one is Alstead a few years back, I'd assume it is still there.

The only Target is at the South Bay Center in Dorchester.

Remi is correct, there is no Target in Downtown Crossing (Target was interested in the historic Filene's building a few years ago but that never materialized). There is a Target at Assembly Sq I believe, but if you live in Fenway area South Bay is your best option. Other options in that shopping center as well, Bed Bath and Beyond, Best Buy, etc
