Default Dont know anything about Boston, looking to move soon

Me and 2 of my friends are thinking of moving to boston, we dont want to go to NYC, we are all from NY and figure Boston sounds fun and a good change of pace. We are looking to be by the beach and find jobs and just experience something new. We have just graduated from college with a BS..... where is a good and relatively cheap place to live?? We have been searching on craigslist but are not sure which towns to go for.

The nearest oceanfront is South Boston. It has beaches but whether you should swim there is probably not advisable. The next nearest beaches are Revere and Nahant (Lynn). The water in Nahant is red - and the water in Revere sometimes smells. The nearest nice beaches are Nantasket/Hull. This would be a good place to explore. I've seen some reasonable rents there, and the water is nice. Nantasket is about 40 minutes by car, and the MBTA has a commuter boat to Hull. After that you can look at Cape Ann Manchester Rockport or Newburyport. These are pricey, about 45 minutes north. After that salisbury is cheap and fun and then you get to Hampton beach NH, my favorite, 50 minutes north no traffic tie-ups and there most definitely are traffic tie-ups in the summer.

Here's some Hampton Beach Pix:

Try Quincy too - Wollaston puts you on the water, not crazily expensive.

It really depends on how close to Boston you want to be. There are several great beaches on the commuter rail that are easy to access. I have been to Crane Beach in Ipswich. It is a great beach, soft sand. It does get packed though. The beaches in Gloucester and Rockport are very nice too. Most of those beaches on the North Shore are easily accessible by the commuter rail. So you can live anywhere in Boston that has easy access to North Station. Here is the MBTA site:

MBTA.com > Official Website for Greater Boston's Public Transportation System

Good luck on your search.

Default In the heart of boston?

Actually we want to be close to the city... we dont know much about the different towns and where people our age are living [22-23] but we figure the closer we are to boston the better?

I would probably recommend The Fenway, if you want cheaper and do not mind being further away from downtown Boston, I would recommend Allston/Brighton. Those areas are full of either recent grads or college kids. I love the Fenway, it is a bit spendy but it has some great greenspace and great restaurants and decent bars. Allston/Brighton does have great restaurants and bars too. All of the places I mentioned are on the greenline, which would bring you to North Station, so you could get to the really good beaches. Just a warning the 'B' line tends to be slow, so very slow, another reason I recommend The Fenway. You should be able to find some three bedrooms in any of those areas. If you can, visit the city for a few days, the international hostel is right on Hemenway Street. You can check out the areas. Here is there website:

Good luck
