Hey all,

I'm new to the Boston area. I'm temporarily living in Medford but considering moving to Newton. My wife obtained a job in Dedham.

Basically what's a better commute in regards to the amount of traffic:

Medford to Dedham via 93 then 128 (95) in the morning and reverse in the afternoon.

or

Newton to Dedham via 9 (Boylston Road) then 128 (195) in the morning and reverse in the afternoon.

I'm particularly interested in Boylston Road as there is no traffic data on googlemaps for this road.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Medford to Dedham will be very rough, especially with the route you want. I-93 through Boston is extremely packed in either direction, both times of day (really, even off peak times).

From Newton, depending on where you are, you could take Dedham St./VFW Parkway southward to get to Dedham. It's only a 7-9 mile trip that way. Sure, there are lights, but you won't have to try to navigate I-95, which can be sometimes unpredictable.

I would highly suggest Newton. It's really one of the best places in metro Boston.

Of those two Newton is clearly the easier commute. 93 is very rough, and you'd have to cross downtown Boston. Newton is much closer, and there are back ways not involving the streets of Boston at rush hour.

As other says, Newton is much easier commute... regardless of time of travel... the worst Rt9 traffic is adding an extra 15 minutes going though the light after Rt95 when heading east. Like others mention, there are local road options, but not sure if it is any better.

Go to Medford on Rt95N going home in the evening, you'll be fighting NH traffic. If you're not on the road before 4pm and after 7pm, you could easily add an extra 30 minutes.
