Travel to Fenway
When I'm in Boston next weekend a few of us plan on going to the Red Sox game. Tickets were hard to find, but we got that part done! Now, we need to know the best and most economical way for 2-4 people to get from the Courtyard Marriot Hotel to Fenway. Are there buses that go on a regular basis? Would a taxi be really expensive? How about a train? Any info you could give us would be very helpful. Thanks!

Depends which Courtyard Marriott. There are two in two I know of, maybe more. Or are you staying at the one in peabody? It makes a big difference.
The two in Back Bay are an easy green line to Kenmore. Or cab. It's only about a mile or so.

I concur 100% with Bostonian. Depends on which hotel. There are two of them in the Back Bay and those are a quick Green Line ride. The green line is one of the T, or subway, lines. It splits, however, into the B,C,D, and E lines. The B,C,D lines all go to Kenmore Sq., which is just a block or two from Fenway. The E goes elsewhere; so don't take it. You could also walk to Fenway from there.
But there is also a Courtyard Marriott in Brookline (from take the Green Line (C) inbound to Kenmore), and in various other towns in the area. It does depend on which one. A cab from Peabody, as Bostonian mentioned, would be quite expensive. Most suburban towns have commuter train stations going into either North Station or South Station, and some lines from the south and west stop at Back Bay station. You'd have to take the T from those stations, though the Framingham line stops at "Yawkey" on game days, which is right next to Fenway.

From the hotel to Fenway Park is only 2-3 miles away. Depends on time of travel... you may hit traffic...
Here's the taxi rate
Taxis - City of Boston
Here's the public transportation site (using subway). From Bolyston to Kenmore. $2pp.
MBTA.com > Official Website for Greater Boston's Public Transportation System
Use a map tool like google or mapquest and walk... sightseeing at the same time. This is great after the game... especially if it is not too late at night.

As smarty suggested, the Green Line is your best bet from Boylston to Kenmore. You can take the B, C, and D trains (don't take the E train - it goes southward to Prudential, away from Fenway). If you're lucky enough to grab the D Train on the Green Line, then you can take it one more stop past Kenmore and get off at the Fenway stop, which is a closer walk.

One more hint-when you get in the station at Boylston (one of the older stations and kind of fun for that reason), you want the B,C, or D "Outbound" as the "Inbound" trains run the other way

Thanks to all of you for the hints! It sounds like the taxi might be easier and about as cheap. What do you think?

I wouldn't count on a taxi being cheaper, particularly with the traffic for the game.
