Default Boston vacation - any ideas?

Looking for sites to see (we love history) and a reasonable place to stay at - we're also going to head to salem for some fun too!

Freedom Trail is THE sight to see in Boston. Google it.

Yes. If you're able to get out of the city you can also head to Lexington and Concord. Look up Minuteman National Park. It's a very pretty area.

Otherwise, in Boston, other than the Freedom Trail, check out the North End, Beacon Hill, Boston Common and the Public Garden, and the Back Bay. All of these neighborhoods are unique and give a good sense of Boston proper.

This list could go on and on...

Freedom Trail is a must. Eat at an Italian place in the North End. Preferably on Hanover Street. Stop at Faneuil Hall and check that out. The Old State House is near there also. Definately worth a look. The Boston Massacre took place right outside.

Also check out Downtown Crossing. Nice little shopping area. Many street vendors and such. Then stroll over to Boston Common and the Public Garden. From there, check out the Beacon Hill neighborhood and the cobblestone streets.

Then walk down Commonwealth Ave into Back Bay. Very intersting architecture. While in Back Bay, I recommend Copley Square and Newbury Street.

FENWAY PARK. If you can get tickets (buy them now), go to a game.

If you have a little more time, I recommend going to New Hampshire or Vermont. I recommend North Conway, NH or Stowe, VT.

For lodging, I highly recommend staying at a hostel. I thought it would be weird when I stayed at one in NYC a few weeks ago. Not so. You meet lots of people from all over the world. Very cool experience, for a third of the cost.
