Default Air mattress, iron and furniture

Hi everyone,

I just found a place on Beacon Hill and I need to furnish my little place. I don't have a car and was wondering where I could buy an air mattress and iron in the city. I figure I'll order furniture online from Ikea unless there's a reasonably priced place in the city. Where's the best place to buy a bed and real mattress? Any adivce?

Thanks.

Visit woodstuff.com for reasonably-priced beds (not necessarily wood), shelving, custom- or ready-made desks, etc. This business has physical locations in Waltham and Norwood, and makes home deliveries. You can do everything but open the door for the delivery crew from your computer.
Brighton, Harvard, and Commonwealth Ave's in Allston form a triangle; along each of these streets you'll find inexpensive and "outlet" stores that'd more than meet your furnishing and accessory needs. The mattress, box spring, and bed frame I purchased in Allston sixteen years ago for short money have held up fine n' dandy. Ride the "B" trolley of the Green Line to the Harvard/Comm Ave intersection and launch your quest from there, or disembark at Packard's Corner (Brighton/Comm Ave corner) and work your way westward.
Economy Hardware and "Basics" are also reputable in-town stores for good stuff cheap. There are lots of "America's 21st-century answer to Woolworth's," Family Dollar stores, in the bluer-collar parts of town as well.

I would also suggest Craigs List. There are some great deals to be had, even opportunities to barter for what you need. Check it out and see what you come up with. Even if the bed doesn't work out, you might find other items to furnish your home. Definitely look at the Stuff for Free section...why not? I've seen decent furniture that people just wanted to get rid of. I know you don't have a car, but Home Depot rents large trucks at a very reasonable price, and if you find enough stuff, and make arrangements with the sellers, perhaps you could pick it up all at the same time. Good luck.
