Thanks everyone!! This has been great information. I'm now in full open-house and hunting mode so this has been valuable helping me narrow it down. I have also expanded my search to Quincy (again, for a variety of reasons I won't bore you with) but really like Roslindale's proximity to the city and, of course, the resident tax exemption! Thanks again!

Just a thought would norwood work? When small hyde park was neat, now, no
cummings highway, and truman highway. If you really want to buy, get a police report
for safety, and stay near the Centre street area. Near JP and West Roxbury and the parkway. congreve I do think was ok off centre street. Do not toss money to buy! and not be safe! also the rossie area near the highway back in the eary 70's stole cars-cummings-highway. Now just check the boston globe, and get a great agent to work with, and do not be unsafe! really check out norwood.

I do think you are part right.
if you live there, I went to work in bad places, and school, just did not know it. I felt safe, and had no fear. If I did need help, people were always kind.

I guess the bad guys, if, I had no clue they did keep me safe.

I know Albano Street is very nice Roslindale. That street lies east of Washington and is a nice and friendly area. Check out some of the areas east of Washington Street as well. Birch Street in Rozzie Square is very convienient to public transportation and all the good shops and restaurants in Rozzie Square.
