Default rant: thinking about moving back home

well i moved to orlando about 4 yrs ago so i can look after my parents and regretted it ever since. and after reading all these threads on how good boston is i sure do really miss home. the only good things i can say about florida is the nice weather, beaches and south beach. other than that everythinig else sucks. i guess the only thing thats holding me back from moving home is the winters. call me chicken but it hasnt gotten below 50deg here in florida in the past yr. so it is pretty nice not having to shovel and drive through snow. has anyone gone through this change? i grew up in boston and i feel that ive done pretty much everything that someone my age has done besides travel. i dunno i guess i just thought i would rant and see if anyone else has been through this.......

How old are you? Will your parents be okay if you move back north? With global warming, I think that the winters in MA have gotten milder. The last two years, the local BMW CCA has had hardly any ice racing in NH because the lake they use hasn't frozen hard enough to support the weight of our cars.

What do you do for work? What about living part time in MA, like only during the three warmer seasons? I have friends that moved from MA to Boca Raton and they spend their summers in NJ and MA with family.

You may want to check out another part of Florida. It doesn't have to be either Orlando or Boston ( although I can understand where you're coming from). Check out communities close to Tampa along the Gulf Coast. I used to live in St.Pete and in Brandon for a couple years each and there is so much more to do there than in Orlando. This way you won't have to endure the cold and will still be close enough to your family. I've heard favorable opinions about Fort Lauderdale but I haven't been there enough times to help you out. You'll have to see for yourself. Good luck.

My situation is along these lines too. I've been living in Raleigh NC for the past 3 years, and the longer I'm here, the more I miss New England. One of the things that is keeping me here is my job. I love what I do, and the company that I work for. It's going to be hard to walk away from that. I don't know how I would feel about shoveling snow in the winter time either. Living in NC has spoiled me a little in that sense. Setup a timeline for yourself. I'm giving myself 1-2 years of independence before I make the jump.

The main thing that you need to take into consideration is the fact that, at the end of the day, you have to do what is right for you. If moving back to Boston would make you happy, then I'd say "pack up your stuff!"
