Unfortunately I don't know anyone who is hiring. Are you doing a sublet? Do you have a place to stay? (I'm sorry if I missed that). $15K is good, just be careful because you can blow through it in no time especially if you're eating out a lot. And Boston is an awesome place to eat. Mmmmm. :-) Let me know about the housing situation.

Just curious...you've not been there, so how did you arrive at your decision? Surely not the old dart at the map routine...

I actually have been to Boston once, for a few days...I enjoyed it while I was there, which prompted lots of analyzing and wondering what else the city had to offer. Needless to say, I got crazed over the idea of moving there and am so ready for a change!

"people are caught up in there own pathetic little lives, no one will smile and talk to you."

Every time I have visited Boston, which is pretty much every year, residents there have gone out of their way to help and be friendly, from striking up conversations in restaurants to noticing us while we were trying to figure out the trains and stopping, helping us get tickets, and make sure it was for the right train. I have to disagree with your assessment.

I've just lived in So Cal all my life, (and I know it will come back to haunt me probably) but the constantly boring heat is getting really old. It never rains or snows here...everyday is the same...like Groundhogs Day.

Anyways, are there any Cali to Boston transplants here that have had a great experience in Boston?

I hear that people in Boston can be stand-offish, bordering rude? I see myself as stand-offish as well. I'm friendly to someone who talks to me, but not likely to strike up conversation with just anyone. I guess in California that translates into "snob". Ha.

I also hear that everyone seems to focus on work and working hard and not enough on relaxing and enjoying life. Is this true? I go to work, put my hours in, but rarely want to put in extras or work until 7 at night. I value my personal life way more than my work life. If I didn't have to work, I wouldn't, and that's how I treat work...is this not acceptable in Boston or this is just a ridiculous stereotype?

Anyways, would love to hear from anyone with an opinion...my date for moving is getting closer....October!
wow! I will now definitely read the rest of this rather old thread but wow, I swear I could have written this! I am a SoCal native (40 years) who has come to really not like this state. Other than year round weather that permits me to do outdoor activities there is nothing redeeming about this state. People talk about diversity this and diversity that...LOL. This state is massive and of course it has diversity but last time I checked you live in a single city and not the entire state.

Boston weather (winter) scares my wife but the pros just seem outstanding. I am so tired of the Prius driving hemp t-shirt wearing starbuck-drinking pretentious poseurs that litter this state, especially when near toilets like LA.

From what I see...no matter what place you read about people complain it has rude people and bad drivers.
Just use your common sense and you will see there is nice and evil people everywhere.
I have been to a lot of places in Europe and the USA and I have met really nice people and jerks everywhere.
Honestly I don't think I would ever get sick of the weather in California...except that it's not hot enough I prefer a tropical climate.
But we are all different....there is people who like winter too....I used to when I was younger but now I hate it.
Anyways...the winters are always cold and the summers vary...I have only lived here since 2001.
There were a few summers when it gets really HUMID for a couple of weeks...but some summers just suck it does not
even feel like summer...the ocean is of course always cold too.
But I think you will like it...it's a nice place to live and it has the most jobs per square mile in the U.S.
