I used to live in Boston, and visit family every other month. I now live in NYC, and it is WAY more fashionable than Boston. I was walking on Newbury the other night and it still amazes me how casual/preppy most of the people dress. The girls who were out to go clubbing dressed way more tacky in my opinion, and overall there is not the same amount of fashionable people as I even see in the boroughs of NYC.

NYC and Boston are two completely different lifestyles. You really can't compare the fashion tastes of the two cities.

To the OP: There are many places in Boston/Cambridge/Somerville to hang out that I would consider "hip" (as much as I hate that word). Bostonians have more of a 'come as you are attitude'. We don't go out just to be seen, like our neighbors to the south.
