i currently live in newton, a 10 minute walk fromt he eliot stop on the green line d branch, and i pay $1375 a month for a gorgeous two bedroom. it includes a spacious kitchen, living, dining room and foyer. two parking spaces and heat/hot water included. i work in downtown boston and take the T everyday to work, about 45 minutes door to door. the option of public transportation is key, especially the rail lines as there tends to be heavy traffic in the boston metro area. on a good day it would take me 15 minutes to drive to beacon hill for work, on a not so good day 45 minutes...

anyway newton is a lovely area of metro boston, with cute walkable villages, and a somewhat urban feel in parts but definetley a lot quieter than the neighboring brighton section of boston (where all the college kids live). it has great access to not only boston but to the outter regions of new england as well (being right on the mass pike and 128 (1-95). its very family friendly. but its proximity to the city gives it an urban edge. and i do not really feel the 'snotty' vibe where i live as some others have suggested.

i reccomend newton!
