Default Job market for recent liberal arts majors?

I am mulling where I'm going to move to after graduation (from UW-Madison), and California is seeming like a quixotic dream with their rent. I know Boston is high too, but it's really not nearly as high, especially if you accept living a bit outside the city.

With that said, I am majoring in History and would just be interested to know how the job market would be for me? Would I have to accept just doing clerical tasks on an hourly wage? Also, I'm moving out of Wisconsin to escape the bad winters... I know you get bad snow in Boston sometimes, but does it ever get bone-chilling (below 10 degrees F) cold?

Thanks

Yeah, my history degree was always a stepping stone to my graduate degree. I think it is for almost any person who gets a degree in History.
