transportation is great, but too bad it shuts down at 1am and the bars close at 2am. Thus encouraging drunk driving.

stopping putting Dorchester down. Where do you live Wellesly hills most likely? I grew up in Dorchester/Roxbury/Jamaica Plain. For those of you looking to move to Boston all you need to know about 90% of the murders here"you live by the gun you die by the gun". Those involved in the so called gangs which are mostly wannabes compared to cities like NY, Chi-town, MIA and CA are involved in a life of crime.

Dorchester is a historic city and shows growth every year. check out areas like Popes Hill, along Gallivan blvd going towards Neponset ave, and Savin Hill(to name a few). You will find friendly people just trying to raise their families and live a great life. There is also a wide range of cultures and races that live there.

Its also higher than cities like SF, Pittsburgh, Dallas, Newark, LA, NYC, Pheonix..once again, suprising.
It surprised me too, especially because it isn't true!

Boston is in the bottom 10th percentile of violent crime of the major cities of this country.

While I enjoy New England, and all it has to offer, I am from CO and love it too. Give me snow to shovel over 90-110+ degree heat/humidity anyday!!!

just because someone is shot or stabbed that does not necessarily mean that they were murdered. There are many cases when someone is shot or stabbed it is not a fatal injury. I am moving to Boston next Summer and some of these posts make me wonder. I do not think that it is right to assume that if someone was shot or stabbed that it was fatal. Can anyone recommend a relocation site that would help to find a job and apartment for my fiance and me?

I LOVE Boston and if you want to talk about bad winters I'll trade you anyday. Where I live we get upwards of 300inches of snow a year. That's right you read that correctly! I lived in Boston for a while and I'll admit it can get cold and there is snow, however it is not even close to being the worst place to live in the winter. Here's a better example. I was out there last week. It was in the low 50's, sunny....in my book beautiful. I was able to walk to my meetings from my hotel, walk around at night (and no I didn't think I was going to be killed by some crazed gang member), and it was great. Meanwhile back at home they got 3 feet of snow and it was 2 degrees. Hummmmm wonder where I would rather be?

Honestly though, sometimes I feel that living in the city in Boston in the summer is hotter than living by the beach on Miami Beach this past summer. Could just be me though.
(I haven't read past this post, FYI everyone)

I grew up in Michigan's Upper Peninsula and we average 300 inches of snow per year. However our temps never dip lower than 10F for more than a few days. Check out the snow meter here (not me in the pic). So I'm going to be used to Boston winters before I even experience one :P

My sister DEVELOPED asthma since living here. Her doctor told her there are numerous cases of people developing asthma (especially if they already suffer from allergies) here. I agree with BunnyD. This is NOT the place to live if you have allergies or, especially, asthma. I personally think there are lots of other reasons not to live here, too, but I just wanted to warn people about this.

Oh, it's o.k. if you get shot and stabbed as long as you don't die?! Sorry, the "ILLOGIC" of that statement overwhelms me.
