CHOKE!!!! Rays Fans have to be worried about this now. Lester rarely has 2 bad starts in a row. If a mediocre Beckett can shut you down, think of what Lester will do if he's on his game. That game 5 loss has a huge impact on the moral of young players.

I agree with Ogre too on the Sox becomming the Yanks crap. My buddy tried giving me that crap and I kindly displayed to him that most of our great players came from our farm system. And we shed ourselves of Manny, which was a good move. Sure we will spend the money to get the great players. I just hope in the future we spend money on PROVEN great players (sorry Dice-K, you haven't convinced me yet). Sure he's got a great record, but how long can he weasel out of innings? We spent $50 M's just to talk to the guy, and he rarely gets out of the 5th inning.

Anyway. Go Sox. Hats off to the Rays and their year, but I hope they get spanked by 10 runs tomorrow.

My favorite part of last night's game was the end - watching those Rays fans in the stands crying like Yankees fans do when they lose playoff games. Look, I respect Rays fans and all, but to cry for a young team like this who is in their first playoff berth? I mean, come on. This is a young team and a team that will be one to reckon with for the next few seasons. Why the crying? Boston fans are tougher than that and I respect that about our fans.

As a red sox fan I'm happy that the Rays made it to the World Series and hope they win it all. They have had nothing but losing seasons, don't have the high payroll other teams have, and I think were a better all around team than the red sox this season.

Just to add, Varitek is worthless. If they resign him again it would be a bad move. Also, Ortiz was a great hitter 2-4 years ago, but is on the downturn of his career and will never be the same hitter than everyone thinks he is.

The red sox aren't the yankees, but they do have some similarities even though people may not want to hear them. The sox and yankees have a larger payroll than almost every other team and spending $52 mil or however much it was just to negotiate for Dice-K proves that. The lower payroll teams can't afford to keep their star players after they have a few seasons. Many of the better players end up on the same 6-8 teams...the teams with the money to pay them.

It's going to be one of the lowest rated World Series games.

As a Jason Varitek fan, I take exception to this remark. Admittedly, the man is not an offensive powerhouse now. He doesn't put up the numbers he once did. However, Varitek brings much more to the team - he is a leader and a well-respected member of the team. That type of leadership is something very valuable for a team that is bringing in a lot of younger guys right now. Plus, his abilities on defense are fantastic. He is a wonderful catcher and truly holds together the team at times.

I wouldn't be surprised if he is not resigned really (Theo seems to want to be the next Steinbrenner), but I hope that he does stay with the team because of his leadership qualities.

I think its funny when they indicate the stadium has so many empty seats in FL, they don't have the fans...the locals just don't care...

I'm just tired of the red sox keeping old veterans who aren't worth the money. They overpaid Trot Nixon for years and he only had one decent season. He wasn't a good defensive fielder either.

I agree that Varitek appears like a good "clubhouse" guy, but it is time to let him go. He hasn't been a good hitter for 3 years now and can hardly throw anyone out. You have to pull him when Wakefield pitches because he still can't catch a knuckleball. The only thing Varitek provides is good clubhouse attitude, he isn't that good offensively and defensively. He may handle certain pitchers well, but remember a lot of the signals come directly from the dugout and not from Varitek himself.

Hair pulling, heart-palpitating interesting.

Great job recovering from a 7-0 deficit to beat us 8-7. We just need to win one down here in the next two games, but my gut tells me its going to be decided in 7.

Do WE have a ballplayer here?? No...

I am confused, and this happens A LOT in GA (mostly when the rednecks are talking about UGA) But everytime they talk about a game, they use references like "We're gunna kick your butt"(edited for the kids on here haha) or "You guys suck" or "You played a good game" Perhaps it's a southern thing(??)

always wanted to say:
I DID NOT PLAY, I AM NOT ON THE TEAM, I WAS NOT ON THE FIELD

ugh. needed to vent...thanks!

I hate GA...9 months and we'll be in boston....plus, GA is too freaking close to Tampa (Boo TB!)
