I'd go with NU. The coop program will let you see what it is really like to work in your field. It gives you something to put on your resume. Also helps pay for college....

My oldest daughter is graduating from high school this year and has applied to NU, one of 8 schools. She wants to go to school in Boston. It is a great place for college...

Do you know where you might live after college? If you are set on the west coast, then USC would have a better reputation there. NU or BU would have a better rep on the east coast... The alumni networks are skewed geographically as well....

I don't know about BU's pre-med but NU's Bouve College of Health Sciences offers excellent programs in such fields as Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Nursing, and Cardiopulmonary Studies with co-op experiences available.

NU is launching a new non-accredited urban studies program or school but since it is brand new, I can't give you specifics about its reputation. I think BU also has an urban studies programbut I am not sure.

So I'm guessing NU has the better med school based off of peoples' responses.

I'll probably stay on the east coast after college. Somewhere like Boston, NYC, maybe Jersey. That's where most of my family is. If I don't, I'll probably move back to LA, SF, Sacramento, or Portland or maybe even Tampa or Miami. But I love Boston and can't wait to at least visit next time if I don't get in to a college.

NU does not have a medical school. What I was talking about was the Bouve College of Health Sciences. BU has a real medical school. I'm confused. Are you applying as an undergraduate student or as a medical student?

Undergrad, but hoping to stay in the area and land a job there once I graduate so if I like the school as an undergrad and they have graduate med schools I'll just stay there. And I think they have Pre-Med too.

BU has an accelated Medical program... it is very competitive.

Every year there are hundred of thousands of kids enter pre-med as a major. Work hard. You'll need a GPA of 3.5 just to have a chance to get in. If you don't, I hope your advisor will let you know early enough so you can to move to a different field. Best wishes........

I got a 4.3 last semester and 4.0 or higher both semesters last year. I test poorly though so my SATs aren't the greatest.

Oops... I mean it is easy to get into pre-med.... However, not easy to get into med school. To get into Med school, you will need average gpa of 3.5+ out of 4.0 scale in college. You also need to do well in the MCAT.

Btw, most high school in the east, an A or A+ is just 4.0 regardless if it is a AP or honor class.

Cool Bu

Being someone who went to BU I would say hands Down Boston University!

it is a great area of the city with a lot of student activties, right on the Charles River. The Dorms have great views of the Boston Skyline..and you'll meet a lot of good friends and people quickly at BU.

The "B" Line Green line can be slow at times, but once you learn the system its really easy...to get around BU Also has a campus shuttle (The BUS) that can get you downtown to the medical campus area and back. - too. and along Comm Ave. A lot of students, walk, rollerblade, or bike though.

You are also close to Kenmore Square and Fenway Park for ballgames, etc.and a couple "T" Stops away from Newbury St. , the Back Bay shops-restaurants, etc. Copley Square, etc.
and maybe 10-20 min from downtown Boston on the "T" (North End, TD Banknorth Garden, Quincy Market-Waterfront etc)
(on a nice day you could walk to downtown in about 40 min)
( I did it a couple times)

Once you're on campus you'll quickly learn all the BU secrets like where to eat for cheap, the music stores, bookstores, best shopping areas, and where all the services are. BU also has the super 88 market, and shaws right on campus for groceries. West Campus Towers has a late night cafe, and a dining hall right in the Middle tower, and there are dining halls around campus,.

Marsh Plaza is the main central area of BU and where a lot of events take place
as well as Agganis Arena

Agganis arena is where there are concerts and the BU terriers play
BU Hockey will become a religion for you if you want to become part of BU you will learn to love BU hockey! Nothing like going to the beanpot each year with friends at the Garden and celebrating another Pot! :-)
this year BU has a shot at the national title.

There's a cool pub on campus T's pub too where people hang out and such. and other bars nearby, and at Kenmore Square.
Kenmore also has a lot of dance clubs and nightclubs

Once you learn the Campus you will find it is a good place to be, and you have the Charles River bike path right next to you which is a cool place to jog or bike...

You also can do a loop down Comm Ave, and back up Newbury St. or vice versa into Downtown or Down Beacon St. around the ballpark etc.

BU is a cool campus with a lot of cool people and it'll be an experience you'll never forget.

I loved the 2 years I was at BU . the reason I didn't stay 4 years is due to the cost.

I had to transfer to Salem State College

But if I could afford it i would have stayed all 4 yrs

the education is good and they have good instructors in any field

What field are you studying if you dont mind me asking?
