Default Breaking Lease Due to Job Loss

I am in this country on work visa and recently I got laid off from my work. I am in 6th month of a year lease and not able to stay and pay the rent any more. Does MA law provides any provision for individuals like me to come out of lease without paying hefty lease buyout that I can't afford?

Contact your landlord or management company and be honest with them. When I moved from Boston to Miami last summer, I was honest with the management company and explained to them my situation. They were able to find someone to lease my apartment without missing a months rent.

If your landlord or management company doesn't want to work with you, find a sublet to carry out the rest of your lease.
