Hi gang,
Not definite, but hopeful chance of starting at Beth Israel-Deaconess in July, so I wanted to be timely and ask about some housing leads. This is probably going to sound like a singles ad in bullet form... lol... but I just want to get a jump on this before the masses start thinking about heading back to the area for school, etc.

Late 30's, mature, single, newly-minted physician from Maine looking for quiet housing. No pets, non-smoker, discrete and respectful (will be at the hospital for long hours, and studying like mad otherwise). Hoping for same in surrounding premises/neighborhood. Prefer natural atmosphere, quiet, and sustainable living. Would also appreciate off street parking, at best (!) some garage space for automotive hobbies when down-time will permit: converting diesel vehicles to run on vegetable oil (focusing on VW turbo diesels), restoring and modifying VWs for performance, among others. I practice an organic, locally purchased/grown vegetarian lifestyle, am an outdoor exercise freak (mtn biker, tele skier, hiker, etc), am energy and ecological footprint-conscious, and compost when possible. Politically and socially active, but not a nut by any means.

Willing to pay premium for housing that's a good fit... and I'm a bit particular at 39 y/o. Really looking for a quiet and peaceful setting, not in an apt complex but attached to a house or similar. Will definitely sacrifice apt size for tranquil environment.

If not near Longwood, anywhere near a T station will absolutely be considered.

Anyone interested in communicating about seemingly similar contexts as described, or know of others with the same, or have any leads?

Any help will be genuinely appreciated!
Kindest regards,
tensegrity _at_ gmx _dot_ us

Looking in Roslindale or JP will give you a best shot at off-street parking and a garage. Both these locations are adjacent to the Southwest Corridor / Emerald Necklace park which would be a nice bicycle ride to Longwood. Rozzie also has the Harvard Arboretum which you might like. These locations would about 2 - 5 miles from LW. The area around Longwood is dense (25K per sq mile!) mostly big apartment buildings and students. There are a few spots near Brookline Village which might fit the bill but might be harder to find a good fit and will certainly cost more. Easy walking distance.

Pondside Jamaica Plain (anything near the Jamaicaway) will be a wonderful delight for you. It is quiet and serene with tree-lined streets and some off-side parking in some houses and is near public transportation to take you to the Longwood Area. Don't be surprised to find fellow medical residents living in that neighborhood too. Other choices to consider are Moss Hill, Jamaica Plain, Roslindale (but away from Washington Street and Roslindale Square which tends to get noisy), West Roxbury, and the southern part of Brookline near Putterham Meadows Golf Course. Good luck in your search!

I would recommend looking at Brookline Village and Coolidge Corner. These are walking distance from the T and the Longwood area (my roommate goes to Harvard MEd School and bikes it every day, but its walkable). There is a lot of great resources for organic living in Brookline.

Other than that, check out Jamaica Plain like the other posters said. The pondside houses are more like mansions and are very expensive though. Don't bother with Roslindale; it's too far and you can get anything they have there just as well or better in JP or Brookline.
