You might get one in Roslindale, on the west roxbury line, or even J.P. there are many, older homes
with an up and down apt. anyway you might put an ad into the Boston Globe, and say what you need.
Welcome, and best of all to you!

Hi there,

You could probably get a place in West Roxbury for that, although I wouldn't recommend living so far away. Brookline is ideal because it is close, but it'd be tough to find a rental for that. It's worth a shot though. In Brookline, you'll have to find a place accessible to the D branch of the green line train or the 66 bus. It'll be very tough to find an apartment for that price there.

You have a few options; look into Allston (for the 66 bus), Newton (near the green line d branch) or JP near the E branch of the green line. All will get you where you need to go. Also, you could look into Mission Hill, which is the most convenient as you could walk to work and would be near downtown. The other neighborhoods I mentioned are nicer though. I would take a look in Brookline to see if you can get lucky as well. Don't go to West Roxbury, it's very far away/dull/inconvenient.

A two family? One unit is on each floor rather than side by side in a duplex.

Oh! I never would have guessed that. I was thinking it meant the same thing as a railroad.

Thank you all for replays!
Another question - we are moving from Germany. How bad the idea to find apartment and sign the lease on distance, through internet? What do you think - how many days i need to find good place?

I would look on craigslist and then make a few appointments and meet with people. If you want a pro on your side, Vanguard Realty in Brookline is a good place to look.

Just a small tip, you might not want to move to roxbury, just due to the drugs and high crime rate. Other then that listen to what they said.

Agreed. I am from this area and personally I found it highly unsafe.
