128/95 is perpetually congested. Better that you take Route 2 east to the Pleasant St exit (Route 60) on the Belmont/Arlington line, then from there follow 60 into Arlington Center and pick up 3 north. It's a more direct, and probably faster, way to go.

I take 128/95 about once a week in that direction and I can usually do the limit, so I'm either continually lucky or 128 isn't as bad as people claim (at least not through the section from 2 to 3). The traffic is usually pretty heavy, but it moves quickly. I've never driven through Arlington Center during rush hour, but it is slightly frustrating during off-peak hours, so I think the way you go depends on if you prefer the possibility of a slow freeway or the possibility of getting stuck at traffic lights. You can always check the traffic reports as you drive and make your decision once you get to 128/95.

I don't know where in Winchester you're going to but I would probably not do 128, especially if it's on the Rt. 3 side of the town. I'd take Route 2 to Park Av and go across Arlington Heights (Park Ave / Forest St / Ridge St to High St or Johnson Rd.) instead of Arlington Center. Not too many lights and not too much traffic. If jay's right about 128 that might be a bit faster, but not by much since it requires looping around.

At what time are you on 128? You think 30mins is pretty typical commute from concord to wichester hospital?
