Default Restaurant Recommendations please!

Can anyone recommend a good seafood restaurant? We're coming in town for an apartment-hunting trip and staying downtown. I am not looking for anything fancy. I just want a huge platter of clams, crab, shrimp, etc.

Thanks!

The Barking Crab is a fun spot located near South Station along Northern Ave beside the Fort Point Channel. They have live musicians in the evenings and on weekends, and you're treated to no-frills dining at the bars or around picnic tables set up under a tent. Though they serve up good grub, unless you order a platter or a clambake you may need to make up for the quantity by drinking more - which of course is what their intent is!
Legal Seafoods is a perennial Beantown favorite, and though their quality has slipped a notch it's still a good place to eat at. They're now an East Coast chain, with locations on the waterfront and at Park Plaza as well as three in Cambridge and more throughout suburbia.

I'd just like to give The Barking Crab an additional recommendation. It's easy to get to (a short walk from the T, but make sure you bundle up for it ... the restaurant is nicely heated) and the food is delicious and well-priced. I'd give it the extra boost over Legal, which you can get almost anywhere and offers a more typical atmosphere.

The Barking Crab and Legal are solid if you want simple, fried seafood, but neither place in my opinion is really special.

My personal recommendation is to go down to the seaport and try Yankee Lobster. It is constantly one of the most consistent in the area and the prices are much lower than Legal or the Barking Crab.

Yankee Lobster: Yankee Lobster Company and Fish Market

Another option is to go the Asian route and try out Peach Farm in Chinatown. Also much cheaper than most seafood restaurants in the area, and some of the best fried seafood I have had in my life.

If you are willing to pay a bit more the best seafood place in Boston in my opinion is Neptune Oyster in the North End (one of the best I have had anywhere actually). The best Lobster Roll and Oyster selection in the area, and a great wine list to go with your meal.

Enjoy!

Cool Royal Roast Beef and Seafood

Try Royal Roast Beef and Seafood in Stoneham Mass, or East Boston off Orient Heights "T" Stop (Blue Line) on Bennington St. Near Constitution Beach. You can order your food and then walk across to Constitution beach and get a cool view of the airport while you eat...and ocean views. at the picnic tables-covered benches.
Constitution beach also has a playground for the kids.

there's a sister store...at Stoneham on route 28 though only accessed by car.
you can exit on route 28 off 93 North --and then keep going straight through the light into Stoneham and it'll be on your left.
Different owners now but same chain :-)

Royal Roast beef has awesome seafood , especially clams and good
roast beef

Royal Roast Beef & Seafood - East Boston - Boston, MA

if you dont m ind going outside the city
I'd say Woodmans or J T Farnhams in Essex Mass.

Woodmans: Essex:
Woodman’s | Historic Seafood Restaurant and Clambake Caterer since 1914

JT Farnhams
JT Farmham's - Essex, MA

Tony's Clam Shop in quincy is pretty good too
Tony's Clam Shop - Wollaston Beach, MA

there's a Clam box also on Quincy Shore Drive in Quincy which has some good views of the city and ocean

or the Clam Box in Ipswich

Clam Box of Ipswich MA, North of Boston Restaurant, Fried Clams

Hope this helps.

Sincerely,
Jeff D
