HI, we are also mvoing to MA, but my husband will be based out of Marlborough I am trying to find a nice family oriented town with lots of children's activites and good schools (kids ages 5, 8, and 11). I was told to avoid Marlborough itself..but to consider Shrewsbury, Bolton and Berlin...any thoughts we are looking at around $600,000 too but that would be our max. We'd like to get the most house for our price and my husband doesn't mind a commute of around 30 mins or so?

Thanks so much!

You have lots of good options nearby (Southboro, Northboro, Westboro, Shrewsbury, Berlin, Bolton, etc). I'd recommend checking out Sudbury as well - an excellent option with very highly regarded schools, lovely neighborhoods, tons of community activities, nice walking trails, a great pool, decent shopping, plus it's right next door to Marlboro (but MUCH nicer). Home prices there are high. You could definately find a home in your price range but not a new home like you'd find in Berlin, Bolton, or Shrewsbury.

I have some family in friends in Sudbury and would HIGHLY recommend it as well. It's a wonderful town. Scarletfire is right on the mark. It will be a bit pricier than Berlin, Bolton, or Shrewsbury, but you can find something nice. There are some nice older homes near the town center (a charming town center, by the way) as well as a large modern housing stock.

Thumbs up Sudbury

I would second Sudbury. Its a nice little community :-) You might look into Harvard, Bolton, Stow,Littleton, Westfod (All are close to 495 so you could commute 10 miles south on 495.)

South of Marlborough you might check out Hopkinton which is a nice town with good schools at the start of the Boston marathon
nice little town green as well

You might also consider Upton, Holliston, Milford/Franklin, Bellingham (about 20 miles South) via 495

Ashland, Medway, Millis, Medfield
Natick, Wellesley, and Weston are all possibilities as well

Maybe even Waltham if you want to be a bit closer to the city with more transit options and still within commuting distance

Lincoln and Concord area might be a good area too.
You could commute to Marlborough via the back roads

I am not sure how Maynard is but could be an option as well or even the new community of Devens (at the former Air base)

My favorites would be Hopkinton, Bellingham, Upton, Holliston, Ashland, Stow, Bolton, Sudbury, Shrewsbury, Wayland, Littleton, Harvard, and Boxborough :-)

Check these towns out first :-)
