Have you tried Rent-a-Wreck? Each Rent-a-Wreck is independently owned, so their policies and rates differ from location to location, but they are generally geared towards students. Usually their under 25 fees are low (like $5 a day), and some don't have any fees at all.

You should also research local car rental companies. Sometimes small, locally owned places do not charge extra fees for under 25 drivers.

I agree that under 25 fees are CRAZY and completely unfair. Statistically, drivers age 21-25 do not get into more accidents than drivers 25 and up. This is ageism. There's no reason they should charge twice as much, especially if your driving record is clean and you have your own insurance (with full coverage, liability, collision, etc).

i do not know local places, that is why i am asking around here. I hope to secure a rental before travelling... but seems like i will have to walk around/look around town and spot something local/non-commercial.

i will check out rent-a-wreck... but that sounds scary!!! Are the cars safe?

Yes, the cars from Rent-a-Wreck are completely safe. They're just a couple of years old--they're not like junkyard cars.

Check yellowpages.com and just type in "rental cars". Skip over the giant corporations and just call around.

Do you not drive? If the other person is the only driver and is under 25, it makes no difference.

Rent-a-Wreck is a good suggestion.

Hartford has some nice suburban areas, and there are nice parts of the city as well, but there is a lot more crime per capita and a lot less to do than in Boston. You would have to drive a lot more. But if you're looking for a quiet area, there are plenty in the Hartford suburbs.

Thumbs up Try U-Haul pickups/cargo vans 18 and over rentals $19.95/day

U-haul has pickup trucks and cargo vans for rent

$19.95 a day no fee. -

Not sure what their mileage terms are and such so you might want to call about that

but they rent to anyone over 18.

(as college students are part of their business)

They have offices in Malden, Medford and Somerville

might want to try them!!!!

Session timed out (http://reservations.uhaul.com/ReservationsWeb02/Quote.aspx?rateID=365091784&pickupOrCargoVan=1 - broken link)
