I am going to move to USA with my wife and child in about a year and thinking which city to choose.
I have a degree in Computer Science and I want to either build a career or start a business. How good is Boston for IT jobs and startups compared to the Bay Area in California?

And just to reinforce this point. 1/3rd of all Venture Capital funding in the US goes to either Silicon Valley or Boston.

We always think how big MA or Boston is.... but in reality...

Silicon Valley is easily 3X of Boston.

Bos region only has EMC and virtually no other relevant tech cos.; rather underwhelming when one considers that MIT is a large, well-regarded engineering school

Seattle only has MSFT (tech industry's version of GM) and AMZN

Silicon Valley dwarfs either Bos/Sea in value of its Big Tech cos., start-ups and world's leading VCs (to finance future start-ups)....and natural advantages of the renewable stream of Stanford and Berkeley alum/PhD dropout talent (and the many MIT and U-IL grads who migrate to SV to build their careers)

I disagree with hsw, there are many software start ups (not sure about IT). They are not well known and most are still privately funded with only a few employees.

Again, CA is so much bigger in size and number of people. However, when calculate per capita... MA is right up there with CA in terms of funding.

Actually, a little less than 3X.

I would think that there are IT jobs in Boston. Boston has a lot of financial institutions.
