I love to take my basset hound to the castle island/City point area of South Boston. Great for good long walks along the coast (Columbia Road/Columbus Park). Very popular with people and thier dogs.

Within the city of Boston it is quite difficult to find a dog friendly landlord. I totally agree with Nate about Castle Island - my dogs loved that park and I loved taking them there. Yup everybody loves dogs in BOS except the landlords. I think most people who have dogs in BOS live in condos or houses. I know that's not good news, but I'm afraid it's true. Dog friendly landlords are tough to find. Try to find some nice old Irish lady in Southie. Irish people love dogs. High rise managers not so much so. Small dogs less than 25 lbs fare better.

I live in JP and there are multiple off leash, fenced dark parks in the area...some you can only use from dawn until 1pm, but there is still Jamaica Pond and the Arboretum. People at Jamaica Pond often have their dogs off lead as well because of the water and the interaction of all the pups. I have met tons of people just out walking DJ, my Lhasa Apso, and more and more places to take him.
