I'm thinking about taking a job in Somerset and looking for an apartment at the same time. My roommate and I don't want to live too far outside of Boston. Originally we looked in the Brookline, Brighton areas, but I heard that would be an exhausting commute. I'm wondering how bad the traffic would be if I commuted from Quincy to Somerset.

Quincy to Somerset, when reverse commuting, should take about 40 to 50 minutes- the bulk of it down Rt. 24 (to 79 and over the Brightman St. Bridge/Rt. 6 into Somerset). It's not a wonderful commute, but since you'll be going in the opposite direction of traffic (assuming you work a normal business day), it'll be easier. It's mostly all highway and I don't think it's that bad. There are a lot of people in that area who commute to Boston daily. In fact, my father commutes from a nearby town to Quincy (and takes the T to a Boston office) every day. Drive it and see how you feel about it. I think that while it's not a super short commute, it's relatively straightforward and easy.
