At the Common. You can feed the squirrels too--they come right up to you.

I'd avoid feeding the squirrels. When I worked at the Emerson College health center, a surprising number of students would come in with nasty bites from friendly-looking squirrels on the Common/Public Garden. I've also heard you are not permitted to feed any of the water foul there either as it causes a poop problem and prevents the birds from migrating.

I am no longer permitted to make jokes regarding squirrel-feeding on this forum (hey casey!) but let's just say it's gross and leave it at that.

Do Not Feed The Squirrels.

I can't believe there are actually people here who are afraid of squirrels. Please! They're no filthier than ducks. Just wash your hands afterwards, who cares.

If you're not supposed to feed the ducks at the Common, it's certainly not enforced and maybe things have changed since I last went, but I don't think I've ever seen a sign.

I don't think anyone's "afraid".

I just don't see the allure of having rodents nuzzle your palm.

Yeah, it's not that they are dirty, it's that they bite!

I don't know what you're doing to freak out the squirrels, but I've never had a problem.

Leverett Pond in Olmstead Park over by the Jamaica Way is another wonderful place to feed ducks. I had done that numerous times myself back when I was a little kid growing up in Mission Hill.
