Different beers, for one, and fewer Irish or Irish-American people. But also, the English pubs tend to be bigger and more open and airy (e.g. open windows) and the Irish pubs darker inside. The distinction doesn't hold as much in Boston as it does over there.

LOL, true! Irish pubs (the ones I've been to in Ireland) tend to have far more to offer in terms of entertainment. English pubs are where you go to get s**tfaced, even if you don't say a word to anyone and just drown in your beer.
