Default advice needed on rentals in waltham, lexington

I have a 6 month temporary assignment in cambridge (memorial dr) and am looking for a reasonable place to live. I can bring my car and hence can afford to move a little far away from cambridge. I am looking for suburban atmosphere with grocery shops, video rentals close by. Commute into / out of cambridge is a big factor. Will either waltham or lexington be a reasonable choice? How bad is commute on route 2 during rush hour? I can live with ~1/2 hour driving each way. Any specific rental places in those areas? during web search I ran into this furnished property called J E realty but don't know how good it is.

A lot of the furnished short-term rentals around here are pretty expensive. You might find better deals on furnished rentals at sublet.com. Another option for a short-term rental would be the Avalon Communities, as I know they'll do short-term (although not furnished).
