Default Looking to Move into JP- Safety?

So, I found a great apartment on Centre Street between Creighton St and Sheriden Street. How is this neighborhood for a woman walking around alone at night? What about crime in this particular section?

Thanks

It's often said here that making an assessment of safety is a personal thing. I am a 23 year-old woman and I would be comfortable there (I lived not far away off of Lamartine), but it might not be right for everyone. It's pretty close to Jackson Square (technically, I think Centre and Sheridan/Creighton is still considered Hyde Square), which has had it's fair share of crime over the years. However, you'd be very close to great restaurants, bars, a few grocery stores, and the 39 bus. Your best bet is to check it out some night with a friend (get on an off the T at Jackson Square) and see how you feel! Life in Jamaica Plain is great, so if you're not comfortable living that close to Jackson Square, keep looking for places closer to Stony Brook and Green Street in between the Pond and Lamartine.

You should be okay between Creighton St and Sheriden, but I wouldn't want to be any further down Centre Street (towards Jackson). Many people who live in Hyde Square actually walk to the Stony Brook T stop, at least at night, to avoid the Bromley Heath Projects. Look at google maps, it actually isn't much further to walk from Stony Brook - though there is a descent size hill. To summarize, I would be comfortable living there, but not comfortable walking to and from Jackson Square every day.
