Default Lexington schools...too intense??

My wife and I are moving from Philly to the Boston area....we are considering moving to lexington/concord/winchester/cambridge.....any thoughts on the rigor of the schools there...we are public school folk but understand the Lexington spots may be a bit wired...any comments??

Curious to know where you ended up, but FWIW - we crossed Lex off our list because it seemed like too much of a pressure cooker for our kids. I'm a professor, but think that some districts can be "too good" -- too much pressure for academic excellence. Newton is the other district that concerns me.

If you did end up in Lex, or wherever you are, I'm curious to know how you find it. We're still looking.

Cool make Winchester your #1 choice!

I'd highly recommend both Lexington and Winchester

but I am biased toward Winchester - due to ease of getting into the city (two commuter rails right in town) nice town center, and services in town or a short drive away -

The Schools in Winchester are the best. if you have any questions feel free to prvate message me about Winchester

or visit our town website at
Winchester, Massachusetts Home Page

we have a lot of youth activitites such as a town tv studio, theatre programs, ballet, music, youth center/recreation department, art programs, library programs, indie bookstore with great childrens book section, youth sports programs, hiking / recreational activities such as the Middlesex Fells, etc. cubs scout/boy scout, girl scout troop, a town swimming beach at Broggard Beach Wedge Pond and Sandy beach on the Mystic Lakes, a Boat Club in Medford and Winchester, A Town Farmers Market, Summer Concerts on the Common, Summer Movies on the common, Town Day, Enka Fair, Santa on the Firetruck and meet and greet/Breakfast with Santa in December, and the thanksgiving football game with Woburn-Winchester . People are very involved in our town and have a lot of volunteer organizations to become involved with . There's a new neighbor and family action network for families you can join to meet neighbors and such. We have a indoor tennis center and outdoor town tennis courts (packard courts). Grocery Store, Banks, Toy store (Catch a Falling Star), and many small boutiques and shops scattered through the downtown. Also Dry Cleaners, Tailors, Shoe repair, Video Store, wine shops, all in town. Mahoneys Garden Center is a great place for all your gardening needs as well. The Winchester Recreation Department offers many programs for adults and kids all year long. -
The Lowell Line provides train service to Boston (20 min ride) to North Station
Schools are top notch
Spend a few days walking around the center and driving around the different neighborhoods, taking a walk in the fells, talking with neighbors and you''ll see why people love Winchester

If you have any questions about the town
PM me

Cool Winchester schools

My mom has taught in Winchester for 30 years and many teachers stick around for 20 or more. You have to have a masters degree to work in Winchester schools. They just expanded the Middle School as well
