Question Moving to Boston...where can I find decent, inexpensive small home to rent?

My boyfriend and I are relocating to Massachusetts from CA in December and would like to know where a good place might be to look for cheaper housing (say a 1 or 2 bedroom small home or condo for $1300 or less). We don't need to be IN Boston, but will be attending UMass there so I suppose within 25 or 30 minutes of the city.
Thank you very much!

If you mean UMass Boston, then I'd suggest any of the neighborhoods on the Red line. Andrew Sq, Savin Hill, N Quincy, Quincy Center. You won't find a house to rent for that $$, but you could find a 2 br apt.
