Default Boston racist?

Foolish people, especially one who say they are white. The only white people in this world who we can say are white are albinos. Italians need to learn as well as the Irish who have been discriminated by the British and referred to as "white ******s". You Irish need to treat people differently from the way the English have treated you. Do unto others as you would like other do unto you. Italian stallions, stop hating other people so much, there are some of you with dark skin you idiots. Stop hating and disliking other people. You should no better, you are Catholic. Didn't your religion teach you not to hate. Jesus told you all not to hate, but you hypocrits still do it for no reason. Cannot hate someone because they don't look like you Italians. You must learn to stop hating, it annoys other people and it will end up annoying you in the long run. Bad Karma....

A lot of people have been ripping on the Southie Irish and calling us racist and white trash in this forum. But how about the race-driven murders in the Bensonhurst (100% Italian) section of Brooklyn back in the early '90's. Then Al Sharpton got stabbed trying to put together a rally. Nobody remembers this, they all remember the busing of the 1970's in Southie (I was born in 1986 so I only know what history tells me). People need to educate themselves and realize what they're talking about before they run their mouths. It's absolutely ridiculous that we're still having debates about racism in 2008. Come on people!!!

I know what you are saying. At the same time, I will say this. There is racism in Bensonhurst, as well as South Boston. I know about Yusef Hawkins getting baseball batted to death. I know about Al Sharpton being stabbed. I also know about the Boston busing riots of the 1970's. While this isn't representative of all Bostonians, Boston's history doesn't sound very encouraging.

Default An answer to is Boston Racist?

No, Boston is not Racist

BUT Boston has racism within it. I have found myself in situations where people think they are superior than me because I am of a different race.

With that being said, that should in no way hinder you from moving or at least visiting Boston. I am sure that you will find Racism in any other major city in the United States. Boston has a dual history of being initially a place where racism was the overall feeling to a place where it supported major movements to educate people that race should not matter, back to a place where racist violence was exploding almost everywhere. (email me if you want the exact dates).

Boston is definitely segregated but it is slowly becoming more integrated. Anyways, one guy said that it is segregated, (irish Catholics, Southeast Asians, Colombians, Haitians, to White, Black, Hispanic, Native Americans) but if this is true then it should be the responsibility of the segregated groups to maintain an open mind. No where does it say you can't be part of a separate group and work together.

Maybe your presence is what is needed.

Oh, by the way why does everybody say that since Boston has a Black governor means that Racism is not existent in Boston. That is just stupid.

Boston IS Racist and I have been all over the country I travel for IT. I have been in this area for 3 weeks and I can't get a eye contact from a women. Men look at you like you are a fool when you walk into a nice bar or restaurant. I have never been to a city where people look at you walking down the street and you look like a ghost. From a personal experience people all around this place is extremely racist. I have walked down Newbury St. to go shopping and I did not see one other person of my color, I didn't really notice it until all the people were looking at my like I was crazy. You really need to be a Red Sox, Celtic or Patriot as a black man in this city to get a fair shake at a nice looking young lady around here. I guess it's a ideal that was passed down from a very young age to not look our way. In Closing..Boston women in my experience soo far is they are all about the almighty $ bill !

Hey, maybe not being able to get a girl has nothing to do with skin color, maybe you're just ugly.
I agree with what mjmaestro said before, there are definitely racist people in Boston, but you can't define the city's identity as being racist.

This entire thread is depressing to me. I live in Houston and it is VERY integrated and, as a black woman, I'd say, NOT very racist. The fact that Boston is still very segregated in 2007 says enough about the level of racism there.
