reality check
Does racism still exist in Boston? Ask the young man that was attacked in Marshfield does racism still exist.
I went to middle school and high school in Boston. The city is so segregated. There are places no minority should find themselves alone on a Friday or Saturday night. Boston is a microcosm of the entire country. As long as your are a person of color-people are going to unfortunately hate you.

Whether Bostonians are racist or not, one thing every race, ethnicity, gender, and orientation in Boston have in common is there love for the Red Sox, Celtics, Patriots, and Bruins (the Bruins may just be a white thing though, since most of hockey's fan base is white).

Perhaps, but the Boston Bruins integrated their team before any other Boston sports team did. Look up Willie O'Ree.

the elitism is disgusting in Boston, bigotry is bigotry and should never be accepted.
Many rich people think they are better than poorer people
even on here a woman wanted a diverse place to live and when I told her about Brockton, Dorchester, East Boston she replied she didn't want to ,live with poor people as they all have drug problems , have mental problems and drinking problems
A woman wanted to move to FL and when I said Miami she said said no as everyone spoke Spanish.
Try walking into a Starbucks with another 8or 9 other black guys and see the reaction from the people who are sitting there, try walking through Mattapan and get the bus and see the reaction you get becasuse you are white.
bigotry comes in all shapes and sizes so to speak and should not be accepted.
walking around with your nose in the air making fun of others who are less fortunate, making fun of a religious person, making fun or looking down on someone who is a different colour is wrong.

You're correct, it shouldn't be like that. Sadly, it is. I have a friend who does alot of things in the southern portion of metro Atlanta and from his experience, he said that he was hassled and felt that the fact that he was white had something to do with it. I wouldn't be surprised if it did because the same elitism in Boston exists in Atlanta. The difference is that few people openly discuss it down here. Bigotry comes in all shapes, sizes and places.

I know that, I just have never heard of hockey being a sport African Americans follow. Another team that was the first to have an all African American starting five was the Celtics. I hear the Celtics are really popular amongst the African American population in Boston. I read in an article on Boston.com that in Roxbury, the black part of Dorchester, Mattapan, and the black part of Hyde Park, that one sees almost all African Americans (the predominant population in those neighborhoods) in those neighborhoods wearing Celtics jerseys (especially Pierce and Garnett jerseys).

Yes, Boston does have its share of racist people. More than half of them happen to be over the age of 50. I'm hispanic and have witnessed some racisim myself, but nothing like how it can be in other parts of the country.
I have heard it is worse for black people, but I really don't know since I'm not black.

It's worse for black people than Hispanic people in every part of the country. So I'd assume black people in Boston experience less racism than in those southern cities.
Racism sucks! No one should be racist.

Racism is very much alive in well in my area to say the least. I live in Fitchburg MA and around here if you have a hispanic background you are a drug dealer, a thief, a welfare case, everything you can dream of in a negative way. The local newspaper writes the daily record of crimes that happen in the area, and everytime there is a latino name in the paper the racists come out the woodwork. Mostly blaming Puerto Ricans (I myself am Puerto Rican) and myself and some other residents try pointing out to these people to not point the fingers at a particular race because just because it's a spanish last name this doesn't mean they are Puerto Rican. These people turn a blind eye to this and keep saying that "all the immigrants should be deported." You can point out that Puerto Ricans are U.S. citizens til you are blue in the face and they don't seem to hear you. Or they are too racist to care.

The Real Racists in Boston
I have experienced a lot of racism in Boston, all at the hands of black people. If a black man goes to my neighbor nothing will happen, but the last time I went to black neighborhood, I was singled out and assaulted because I am white. That was not the only racial attack I've been a victim of.
Recently an off-duty white fireman was assaulted and almost stabbed to death by a gang of Hispanics in East Boston, who shouted at him, "We don't want to no gringos here."
In my experience in Boston, the best way to avoid racism is to avoid black and Hispanic areas. That's where almost all of the racists live.

[quote=vivabigpapi;4263991]I saw a lot of black people in Boston that were into the Red Sox, and I just recently saw two games at Fenway Park against the Rangers and I saw plenty of black Red Sox fans at the games I went too, and they were being treated just fine.

That what I came to the conclusion. What people call racism today is nothin like it was in the 50s & 60s. Few people in the younger generation today seen or face racism in its truest & ugliest form, and most people get segregation and racism mixed up. As a black man that is 19 years old, I honestly never face the kind of racism the older generation faced back in the 1950s & 60s and the US have came a long way compare to just 40 years ago. Don't get me wrong, racism still exist today, but its not in your face racism and more behind your back/close doors. I do notice that alot of people show their true colors on the internet and showing there racism in forums and comments and won't dare to say it to a person face in the Real World.
