Where to stay in Boston (Quincy, Peabody: hotels, house, safe)

Hi! My husband and I are planning a trip to Boston, (and Cape Cod), this September.

We plan to spend a few days in Boston and I was hoping for suggestions on where to stay, or if there are any unsafe places we shouldn't stay/not go to. We love history and touring historic homes, Colonial Williamsburg, VA is one of our favorite places to visit. While in Boston we plan on touring John Adams home, go to the Willard museum, Peabody Essex museum and we are open to any other suggestions!

I asked questions about Cape Cod and the responses were so wonderful and helpful I thought it smart to also ask about Boston!

From the sound of things, you're going to be driving all over the place. All the places you mentioned are in different directions. Unless you have your heart set on staying in the city, you may want to stay somewhere in the 'burbs because it will be a little cheaper and you'll probably get free parking as opposed to the arm and a leg the city hotels charge.

I'd consider the Marriott in Quincy. I had friends who stayed there and had a good experience. From what I've heard it's a nice hotel so it's not budget, but it's less expensive than a similar quality hotel in town. Also, I'm fairly sure parking is free. It's also pretty close to the Red Line T that will take you right into central Boston in about 25-30 min and likely the hotel has a free shuttle to the T station. The hotel is also right by the intersection of several major roads - Rt 3 which leads to Cape Cod and 93 and 95 (aka 128) - great if you're driving to different areas.

If you like history and old homes, you could spend weeks in Boston! Since you'll be in Salem visiting the Peabody Essex Museum so you should check out the rest of Salem and all the history associated with the witch trials. The House of the Seven Gables is also in Salem.

Of course, there is much to do in Boston itself!

Thank you so very much Shiver for the great advice! I didn't realize we would be headed out in so many different directions! Honestly my husband is the one that has the fabulous sense of direction, I have an awful one!

I really appreciate the help because truth be told I am planning this trip as a surprise for my husbands birthday! Boston sounds so amazing I know this will not be our last trip there!

Any other suggestions to put on the "Boston area must see list". I know we can't get to everything this trip, but since we are only about an 8 hour drive away I think we will start thinking about taking some mini vacations to Boston on long weekends.
