Default Arlington

I would suggest Arlington --center area. there's a bike path --out to lexington and bedford...and there's a lot of services and shops in Arlington Center---there's a lot of bus routes as well. You could take Mass Ave. right into Lexington

---Teele Square or Davis Square might be another option thought it'd take you around 30 min or so to get to Lexington via Holland St. and Mass Ave.

Default Estimate rough enough?

My rough estimate is a minimum of 30 minutes. Most likely 45 minutes. Depends on where you live in Allston or if you are lucky... it could be as much as 1 hour. Morning commute is much easier than afternoon. It is jammed around Watertown exit near Rt90 or near Rt2 (near Alewife) on your afternoon commute.

Thank you for you help!
I bet I know exactly who you are and where you are working. You probably want to live in Davis, Porter, Harvard, or Central square. This will have you in a location convenient to work, convenient to the city, and near your co-workers.

Feel free to call and of your future co-workers and ask for advice instead of posting here. We don't bite

Arlington isn't far from Boston at all. I doubt if you'll feel uncomfortable there, since many college/grad students rent apartments and houses in Arlington.
