I know of a college student who will be doing an internship in this area. How safe is it? Better to drive in, or take a bus? Coming from Brighton area. Thanks!
This is Meetinghouse Hill, considered to be at the unsafe end of the scale. While it may be safe enough for someone coming in and leaving during normal business hours, the student should be careful. S/he should ask people at the workplace about safety coming and going. From Brighton, it's either the #66 bus to Dudley Station, transferring to the #19 to Fields Corner, or the green line to Park St and red line to Fields Corner. From Fields Corner MBTA, walk up Adams St to St. Peter's Church. This is a long ride, take a good book. Driving easier in the long run once you learn the way.

Geneva/Bowdoin is notoriously well know as the most dangerous location is BOS. I think MH was subliminally spelling it out in the last phrase. If you're on Bowdoin St, you better know how to run if you want to get home with your a$$.
What kind of college internship is the student doing may I ask? If the internship is at St Peter's, then travelling by T would be all right during the daytime though it is an awfully long ride (I would say either route #66 to Dudley and then route #15 all the way to Kane Square which is near St. Peter's Church or Red Line to Fields Corner and route #17 which takes you right to the church and school - I would not want to walk up Adams Street from Fields Corner unless I planned on being mugged or harassed.) The car drive is not fast either. The area is indeed a very tough area and I would not want to stick around at night or wander off the main streets at any time.
