Default Milton, near the Hyde Park border

Anybody know this area? Truman Parkway area, near Badger Road and Faraday Street (in Hyde Park)?

A few houses we're looking at are right in this area of Milton that borders Hyde Park, and we noticed some housing projects in Hyde Park nearby this border.- just wondering about safety...Thanks!

Milton by and large is very safe and Truman Parkway is a beautiful road to drive on. I don't think you will have any problems there. I am not sure of housing projects in that area, I may be wrong, but the not so lovely parts of Hyde Park are further away from the Milton border.

That area is quite safe, just plan on needing your car any time you want to leave your house.

Thanks for the help. I drove around this part of Hyde Park today, and it was really quite nice, with well-maintained houses and lots of people in their yards...it's nice to confirm from you both that it has a safe reputation as well, since if I buy one of the houses I'm considering, I'll be just a few blocks away.

How far back in the past are you talking about? Specifically what part of Hyde Park are you talking about? What murders are you referring to?

The latest crime map in Boston.com found at

2009 murders in Boston - Boston.com

shows only two murders in Hyde Park that happened on the same day at the same location which is a location nowhere near the border of Milton. Compare this to 15 murders in Dorchester and tell me who is very dangerous. Even Dorchester has its safe parts (I live in one) so you can't just say that Dorchester is an entirely dangerous neighborhood either.

Hyde Park is Mayor Menino's own neighborhood and he still lives there. If it were such a dangerous neighborhood, I doubt the mayor would stay there. I agree that there are some parts of Hyde Park that are dangerous but those parts are closer to Mattapan than Milton (i.e. closer to Cummins Highway or the top half of River Street north of the square). The section of Hyde Park the OP was mentioning, that of Badger Road and Faraday Street, lies in the southern end of the Fairmount section of Hyde Park and is not what I consider to be a high crime area at all. In fact there is a pleasant park with baskeball and tennis courts and frequented jogging paths right near there. To say that Milton is better is an understatement as well because according to a recent article, Milton was designated as one of the safest places to live in the country.

For good measure, the 2008 crime map shows three murders in Hyde Park although two of them might have happened in Mattapan.

2008 murders in Boston - Boston.com

As I perceived, the majority of crime happens near the Mattapan border, Cummins Highway and River Street north of Cleary Square. Cleary Square is a little rough looking too but there should be no problems during the daytime.
