I was just wondering a couple things about the show. How does a restaurant end up on the show? How do they find out about new restaurants so they can review them?

Also, I've heard something about the show and wondered if anyone knew anything about it. I've heard that it ends up costing the restaurant money for them to be shown on the show. I don't know if it was for the lengthy interview or just to be reviewed in general. Someone I talked to knew someone that was on the show and said somehow it cost the person money. Does anyone know if there is any truth to this?

MOST restaurants on Phantom Gourmet are suggested to the show by the viewing public (you can go to their website and suggest a restaurant if you wish). The show then goes and "secretly" dines in the restaurant under the guise of a normal customer. Their reviews are based as if they are a typical paying customer, no special treatment.

After that is where it gets a bit hairy. I know they will review and publish a review for free. However, in order to be featured as a primary restaurant, I believe that restaurants may pay for the publicity (Phantom films the restaurants and the dishes for the show... this may cost the restaurant).

In short, I believe the review is free, but the length and time of the feature is up for debate and can be lengthened at a cost. If a restaurant gets a good review, then they may want to pay to increase the time and visibility of their segment as it's GREAT advertising.

Thanks. Are there any restaurant owners who know more about what lrfox is talking about? If you want, send me a pm about it. I would definitely like to know more details about this.
