Allston is a nice place especially commonwealth ave. but lately i've been reading in the METRO that there have been many brawls in nights one after another at Allston, two people got stabbed and died two nights in a row.

Post-last call fights in Allston are hardly a new occurance. It's an area full of a.) bars and b.) young drunk guys. Ergo, fights.

And far be it from me to call into question the journalistic integrity of the Metro, but two people were not murdered two nights in a row in Allston.

Back to the OP, I'd also say Allston is much more tolerable as a 20-something. In addition to Brighton and maybe Brookline, I'd look into Central Square or Cambridgeport, just over the river. Fun, diverse, lively, bars, restaurants, etc.

Parking is tough in some parts of Brighton Center and pretty easy in others. To get downtown without a car, it can take a while since you need a bus to the train, but if you're not commuting downtown every day it's much easier to drive there on the weekend.
There's also an express bus that runs during morning and evening rush hours, but it's more expensive.

But only during rush hours. I have friends in Brighton Center and considered living there at one time, but the last bus out of downtown Boston is like 7:30 and I knew there would be plenty of nights that wasn't going to work.

OP's commute is to Allston so it's not an issue.
